A free and flourishing economy is necessary for any nation’s citizens to prosper. From 2017 to 2019, the U.S. built a thrivin g economy that was a model for the rest of the world. As a result of pro-growth policies such as tax reform, Opportunity Zones, and streamlined regulations, we began to see renewal and economic revival in traditionally underserved communities. Our Nation’s economy experienced unprecedented growth, and many American communities who were the most in need benefitted from their lowest-ever unemployment levels.
In the three years before the pandemic began, the U.S. experienced increases in real wages and household wealth and record-low levels of poverty. Job growth exceeded expert projections by five million during this period, and real growth in the gross domestic product was more than double the average of the other countries in the Group of Seven (G7). Additionally, women, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Hispanic Americans all had their highest rates of employment in 50 years.
Today, our goal is to rebuild this Great American Economy and restore hope and prosperity for all Americans. To accomplish this objective, we must end historic out-of- control inflation, fight for the American worker and their wages, and make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent to lay the foundation for additional reforms. We must also negotiate trade deals that protect American workers and consumers, build supply chains that rely only on American workers and our allies, and build the world’s greatest infrastructure system. Additionally, by enhancing Opportunity Zones, we can help lift millions of Americans out of poverty.
Our efforts to rebuild America begins with promoting policies that support and benefit all Americans. By focusing on these actions and always putting Americans first, we can restore the greatest economy in the world and lift communities across the country.
